Master‘s Thesis – Formal Information

- Duration: 1 Semester (6 months)
- Contend: Independent preparation of an English-language document (Master thesis) to work on and answer a relevant question from the (sport) scientific field, under consideration of scientific standards. The research question, hypothesis, methods, results, discussion, and practical recommendations should be presented conclusively and comprehensibly and correspond to the international scientific standard.

How to pic your topic?
- (sport) scientific topic
- the supervisor must be an authorized examiner (staff member) of the Faculty of Human Sciences at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU). The thesis may be carried out in another faculty of JMU or in an institution outside of JMU with the approval of the chairperson of the examination board (Prof. Billy Sperlich), provided it is supervised or co-supervised by authorized examiner of the Faculty of Human Sciences.

Fill out the form completely, obtain the signatures of both your first and second supervisors
Submit the signed document to Andrée Siedler (andree.siedler@uni-wuerzburg.de),
She will obtain the signature of Prof. Billy Sperlich as Chair of the Examination Committee,
After all required signatures are collected, the document will be forwarded by Andrée Siedler to the Examination Office/Prüfungsamt.
From the date the registration document is received by the Examination Office/Prüfungsamt, you have six months to complete your Master’s Thesis.
- Without official registration of your Master’s thesis, no final grade can be issued.
Submission of the Master's Thesis:
- Working phase of the thesis: 6 months.
- Deadline will be determined by the Examination Office/Prüfungsamt in accordance with your document to register your Master Thesis (Antrag auf Zuteilung einer Master-Arbeit).
- If the submission deadline is missed, the thesis will be considered failed on the first attempt and graded as “insufficient” (5.0).
- Submission requirements:
•Provide two USB sticks, each containing the thesis saved as a PDF file.
•Include a signed letter stating: Your full name & the full title of your thesis
•Include the signed document “Versicherung zur selbständigen Leistungserbringung / Declaration of Independent Academic Work” (20231127_Versicherung_zur_selbststaendigen_Leistungserbringung.pdf) with your thesis submission!
